RRV Helps In Times of Emergencies Involving Radioactivity
Who We Assist
RRV is a vital part of Colorado's MRC network. We work closely with Colorado's Emergency Management Center, Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment (CDPHE) and other Colorado MRCs. We do not self-deploy. We can only be activated by the state government.
How We Help
We coordinate delivery of services with first responders and other agencies in response to radiation events in an affected community.
How We Prepare
A CRC consists of several specialized stations. The stations perform a series of steps including reception, medical triage, screening for contamination, decontamination and registration/discharge.
New RRV volunteers learn to perform the duties for one station through a combination of online learning and in-person instruction. They practice skills during hands-on labs, table-top simulations and practical field exercises. Volunteers acquire further training to become proficient at working in many CRC stations.
