Low levels of naturally occurring radiation are common in Colorado. The average person is exposed to cosmic rays, radon gas, uranium and various minerals in the soil. You may also get radiation during medical procedures such as dental X-rays, CT scans or radiation therapy.

On very rare occasions, larger amounts of radioactive material may be released into the environment as the result of an industrial mishap, a transportation accident or even a terrorist event. First responders and local governments can request the help of organized volunteers to assist in dealing with those situations. The special capabilities of the Radiation Response Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (RRV MRC) can be of great help during these emergencies.

OUR MISSION

The RRV MRC responds with personnel and equipment to radiological events in support of local, state or regional requests to establish a Community Reception Center for population monitoring, decontamination and registration.
